Michael Shepherd is founder of GrowthPoint Technology Partners. His technology experience as a CEO, operational executive, software engineer, consultant, financial advisor, investor and board member – has given him an unusual mix of expertise. Mr. Shepherd is an expert in software and service company growth, technology, marketing and finance strategy, software development and implementation and acquisition and divestiture transactions.

Mr. Shepherd has closed transactions with companies such as BMC Software, Cavium, Chordiant, Fair Isaac, HP, IBM, Intel, Macrovision, Microsoft, Oracle, Parallels, Sun Microsystems and Symantec. Before co-founding GrowthPoint Technology Partners, Mr. Shepherd was a principal at SVB Alliant advising on and executing software mergers and acquisitions transactions. Before joining Alliant, Mr. Shepherd was on the Nextera (a Knowledge Universe Company) executive committee and Managing Director of the Nextera Interactive division through to its IPO. At Nextera, he worked with News Corporation on bringing the company’s assets to the Internet and with Hilton Hotels, Starwood and Marriott on the impact of the Internet on hotels.

Prior to Nextera, Mr. Shepherd founded and served as President & CEO at Pyramid Imaging Inc., which was sold to Nextera in 1998. Pyramid was a software and services company focused on financial services and utilities. While at Pyramid, Mr. Shepherd started and spun out two other companies, an interactive entertainment company and a video indexing company. Prior to Pyramid, Mr. Shepherd was a management consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton in the commercial ISG practice under Ray Lane focused on business and IT strategy and a manager at Accenture in the Advanced Technology Group, where he led a team which built advanced technology prototypes as part of the sales process. Earlier in his career, Mr. Shepherd was one of the earliest members of the team that started The Independent newspaper.

Mr. Shepherd currently serves on the board of directors of OM Records. He coaches his sons’ soccer teams and helps out at Sea Crest School, plays squash, tennis and tries to play golf.

Mr. Shepherd graduated with honors from Imperial College, University of London with a B.S. in Biochemistry, and specialized in Biotechnology. He is an Associate of the Royal College of Science. He also graduated from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Stanford University and is a Sloan Fellow.
